Hair laws irk salon operators.
"Kelantan's gender segregation rules affect non-Muslim business".

Kota Bharu : Hair dressing salon operators are learning the hard way that gender segregation rules in Kelantan apply to non-Muslim as well.

E-Life Hair Salon Manager, Ong Lee Ting said that "I fin the by-laws confusing... they should not apply to a non-Muslim woman cutting the hair of a non-Muslim man". Ong said that she had settled 11 summonses for this law since she opened for business in KB Mall in 2010.

"As long as they (the salon owners) pay the compounds, they will be allowed to operate", said council secretary, Mohd Anis Hussein.

Another salon manager, Nice Hair Salon, Alice Ong Lee Ruong said, she understand if that applies for the worker cutting the hair of Muslim men but then, they were attending to non-Muslim men. She had to settled 10 summonses and she wonders for how long she would have to pay fines.

"They are not cheap, and we have to consider the high rental, salaries of our worker and other expenses," she said.

"The council, in zest to implement Islamic principles in its by-laws, has caused hardship to the non-Muslim business community," said by one of the salon owner, who declined to be named.

National PAS Supporters Congress chairman Hu Pang Chaw agreed that the by-laws should not apply to non-Muslim women cutting the hair of non-Muslim men. He urges the council to review the ruling.

I will do my best to translate this news from English to Bahasa Melayu.

Mohd Anis Hussien, setiausaha kounsel berkata, "Selagi mana mereka (pengusaha salon" membayar denda, selagi itulah mereka dibenarkan beroperasi".

Seorang lagi pengurus salon, Nice Hair Salon, Alice Ong Lee Ruong berkata, "Saya faham jikalau mereka dikenakan denda kerana membenarkan pekerja wanita kami memotong rambut pelanggan Muslim lelaki, tetapi pekerja kami memotong rambut pelanggan lelaki bukan Muslim".
